Hello again to the Medi Aid family

As the days gradually lengthen, the chill temperatures are with us for some time yet. Here are some more simple tips on coping with the cold.

Keep warm at all times. A drop of one degree in body temperature allows germs (ever present in the air) to get a foothold and multiply at 100 per cent greater rate.

Use warm light weight blankets. Mohair is the best, but expensive. I recently bought a queen size one for $499 but with 30% off at “sales” it was a good buy. Very light, and extremely warm. It is not a burden on the body circulation as are heavy blankets which may cause cramps in legs at night.

Electric blankets are OK, but preferably turn to One when in bed. Otherwise the body can become very hot, and this maybe dangerous in infants (seizures are possible)

If you get cold feet, take a vitamin B3 tablet, which dilates peripheral blood vessels. Also helps prevent chilblains.

Doonas are very warm, often overheat, as the heat cannot escape. Very comfy, it can even give guys “hot flushes”
