HIGH HEELS ON THE HIGH ROAD

Guys are pretty pragmatic and practical. They wear roughly the same kind of shoes.  Sole and heel normal height, so they can walk without too many problems, like tripping over things or falling (excluding of course the late night out.)

Women are delightful, unpredictable but the victims of a thing called "fashion". That’s OK, if you have the funds to fun, find and fund.  But when into the foot gear  there is the unending mad desire to get with it.  The higher the heel, it seems, the more grace, charm, poise, attraction, appeal the body magically gains. (Just read or see "The Devil Wears Prada")

Doctors have known for decades that constant use of high heels increases health risks. It throws the body alignment (called the spine) out of normal balance. That means related back muscles may go into spasm and cause pain. Calf muscles at the back contract, whilst those in front are overstretched. This ill effect may become permanent. For everyday use, low heels are best. Leave the high heels for special events, certainly not everyday work.

Also, there is the risk of very tiny  heels catching in metal grates and cracks on footpaths. Just think of the weight that is being transmitted onto a few sq cms. Falls, fractures, injuries are on the agenda.

Nevertheless, my podiatrist friend says when women as (all ages) are asked about preferences, most say they still opt for high heels, sore back, broken bones or not.
